£2.5 million for Poppy Factory Renovation

The Treasury will be awarding The Poppy Factory £2.5 million to support the renovation of our factory. This funding is being announced by the Chancellor in the budget on Wednesday 22 November 2017.

Chief Executive of The Poppy Factory Deirdre Mills said:

“We are delighted that we can begin the process of transforming our factory into an accessible, inclusive and educational space for the disabled veterans who work here and for the wider local community.  Our employment service helps get veterans with mental and physical health conditions back into work and as such helps restore financial independence and make a positive difference to veterans’ lives.”

This funding goes a long way to helping us reach our target of £5.7 million to complete the building works. The funding will provide a direct benefit to all staff in Richmond.  It absolutely centres us in in the community and helps secure our future here.  Planning permission is going in at the end of this month and the building work is due to start at the end of next year.

The charity supports veterans with mental and physical health conditions into work. The factory in Richmond directly employs 36 disabled veterans to produce the poppies and wreaths for the Royal Family and The Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal. The factory also houses employability and fundraising staff, overseeing a service which has now helped more than 800 disabled veterans into work across the UK.
