Greenwich Hospital and Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans are launching an exciting new partnership in the historic Naval town of Gosport, Hampshire, providing accommodation for homeless Seafaring Veterans. The new project, Greenwich House will become residence for up to 8 homeless and vulnerable Veterans at any one time, allowing those in need to gain the support that they so urgently need.
With the first residents due to move in in June, work is already underway to get the home ready. As well as a beautiful new home, each Veteran will be provided with support to help them access healthcare, gain budgeting skills, find training and employment opportunities, and prepare to manage their own accommodation independently again in the future.
In most of the homes, Veterans will be ready to move into their own accommodation or lower support within 6 months to a year. Working together the charities hope to be able to help around 15 Veterans every year. Alabaré currently already operate 3 homes in Gosport. Altogether, running 26 homes in 10 regions across England and Wales, providing 125 bed spaces for Veterans. Homes for Veterans has supported 209 Veterans this year.

Greenwich Hospital is a Crown charity established in 1694, the primary purpose of which is providing charitable support to serving and retired Royal Navy and Royal Marines’ personnel and their families. It devotes its resources to: hardship-relieving annuities, supporting individuals directly and through other naval charities, running three sheltered housing schemes, and providing educational bursaries for the children of Royal Navy families at the Royal Hospital School in Suffolk. The Hospital meets its charitable commitments through income from its financial and property investments.
