Based in the heart of Winchester, The Gurkha Museum tells the moving and unique story of Gurkha Service to the British Crown. Having recently converted to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), this Charity is moving through a period of positive change and is looking to recruit a highly competent Assistant Director, to support the Director in all aspects of day to day operations.
This integral role will enable the post-holder to assist with the management and development of the Museum; ensuring the highest professional standards of service are achieved to the beneficiaries, stakeholders and organisation in accordance with all internal and external regulation and best practice.
As part of the SMT you will be the main point of contact for staff management and development issues. You will also represent the museum at external forums; enhancing its reputation and creating new fundraising / business opportunities. With the Director, you will also act as media spokesperson for the Museum, when required.
On a day-to-day basis, you will assist with and monitor the operation of the Museum as a collection of artefacts and archives relating to the heritage of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the culture of Nepal and all commercial activities. Through effective communications you will deliver information to key stakeholders via Social Media, website, press coverage and written publications for the promotion of the Museum’s charitable aims and objectives.
Interested candidates will need a proven track record within a senior management team, experience of staff and volunteer supervision and the energy and drive to develop this new role. You should also have project management skills and experience of management reporting, financial planning and budgetary control. Knowledge and an understanding of operating in a museum or charity environment would be preferable, whilst your ability to communicate well, prioritise and work in a customer focused, self-motivated way will be essential.
