Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun?! SSVC’s one-year project, The Forces Welfare Media Team, has come to an end. Funded by a grant from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund, the four-person team has covered almost 150 stories across TV, Radio and digital platforms. They’ve shone a light on the work of numerous forces charities from the one-woman dynamo that is Kath Ryan and ‘Cakes 4 Casualties’ to well established and historic organisations such as the Royal British Legion.
They’ve travelled around the UK from Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands to meet the people who work tirelessly for charities and Covenant funded initiatives and those they’ve helped. The team has covered numerous issues – from the rewards and challenges of transitioning out of the military to mental health and support for families and elderly veterans.
While the Forces Welfare Media Team itself is no more, you can still see all their videos at www.forces.net/welfare . It’s most definitely not the end, though – Forces TV and BFBS Radio, both a part of SSVC, will continue the good work of the team, reporting on welfare issues around the UK. If you have a story for them – it doesn’t need to be a big ‘news’ event, just a really good example of the work your organisation does – don’t hesitate to get in touch with Emma Davies – emma.davies@ssvc.com.
