The first OA Employment Symposium of 2017 brought together leading military friendly employers and industry experts keen to share their insight with those currently in transition, or seeking a further career change since leaving the Armed Forces.
Hosted at York’s Network Rail Training Centre, this year’s event kicked off with a dedicated LinkedIn workshop to demonstrate how the social media platform is now essential for Service leavers in supporting their transition and next career move. This was followed by a senior officers session, which gave advice and guidance to high-ranking transitioning officers on finding suitable civilian management roles.
Colin Tweedie, Networking Consultant, demonstrated how to become a confident face-to-face networker able to start a conversation, understand what questions to ask and how to turn the discussion into a long-term careers opportunity.
Breakout sessions followed where attendees chose from a range of sessions hosted by industry experts, who examined common career paths for Service leavers and included Operations; Project Management; Risk Management; NHS and SMEs.
