Activity Breaks Provide Challenges For All Ages

The Not Forgotten Association has recently run two highly successful breaks for groups of injured service men and women: a 4 day trek across Iceland for 22 people and an outdoor activity week in Scotland for 15 people.

Each group included veterans of all three services and a number of Marines undergoing rehabilitation

They represented partner charities and organisations such as Blind Veterans, SAMA82, Band of Brothers and Scottish Veterans; and campaigns from the Falklands to Afghanistan. Coincidentally, the youngest serviceman in each group was aged 22 and the oldest veteran was 62. Whatever their age, each participant took on the various challenges with determination, supporting and encouraging each other when necessary. The value of such confidence and morale boosting experiences is considerable and will enhance many aspects of their lives, particularly those undergoing rehabilitation.

A former Marine commented on the Iceland trek: “We were from all different backgrounds with different stories to tell. The one thing that we shared common ground on was our time in the services. I have laughed so much at the stories and the gentle banter that rebounded around our group and glued us together for a short time. The young and not so young supported each other and new friendships have been formed. I truly had a fantastic time.”
