Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is inviting local residents to exercise their vocal chords and enter the festive swing with a number of carol singing sessions at the Bay View centre.
Suzanne Evanson, Blind Veterans UK Regional Fundraising Assistant, says: “We are looking for members of the public to join us on both December 7 and December 19 – you don’t have to be a choir member, or even the world’s best singer! All you need is enthusiasm and a smile!
“Those a little nervous about performing can join me in the back row!”
Along with volunteers from the charity, members of the Harmony Singers will be lending their talents to the proceedings. Since 2012, the group has been supporting Blind Veterans UK by attending its Christmas Carol Collection, helping to raise more than £3,000 in the process.
With two one hour-long sessions taking place during each day, at 11:30am and 1:00pm respectively, guests in attendance will be given both a song sheet and festive hat. Free parking will also be provided those looking for a great excuse to face the dreaded Christmas shopping.

Blind Veterans UK was founded in 1915 and the charity’s initial purpose was to help and support soldiers blinded in the First World War. But the organisation has gone on to support more than 35,000 blind veterans and their families, spanning WWII to recent conflicts including Iraq and Afghanistan. They have set the ambitious target to double the number of veterans receiving its life changing support by 2022.
For more than a century, the charity has been providing vital free training, rehabilitation, equipment and emotional support to blind and vision-impaired veterans no matter when they served or how they lost their sight. Visit blindveterans.org.uk/support to learn more about the charity and how you can support its vital work today.
