After a decade as Chief Executive Officer, Robert Robson has informed the Royal Navy and Royal Marines board that he intends to step down from the role during the summer of 2018.
The last decade has seen the charity established both inside the Service and on the national stage as the primary grantmaking and fundraising charity for its beneficiaries who serve or have served in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. With a focused strategy, a settled board and a team delivering well, the RNRMC is strongly positioned to expand and build on these firm foundations.
In announcing the planned move, Bill Thomas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees said, “Robert has been CEO since the first day that the charity stood up with its own staff in September 2008. He has led the RNRMC with passion, focus, resilience and humour through a decade of growth. In that time we have forged an identity, positioned the charity as a leader in the military charity sector and raised an enormous amount of money for our beneficiaries. Our grantmaking has seen over £55m go out to those in need and we have created partnerships within and beyond the naval charity world. In advising me that he wished to step aside this summer he leaves an enduring legacy for his successor to build upon.”
In his comments to trustees, Robert Robson said, “As Chief Executive of the RNRMC it is an enormous privilege to serve sailors and marines of all ages; it is a rare opportunity to be given the chance to establish a new charity of such scale and ambition and I have been lucky to work with a team of dedicated trustees and colleagues to make it happen. The men, women and the families of the Naval Service are a remarkable part of our society and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity is for them. When I hand over later this year I look forward to seeing the charity continue to thrive and grow under new leadership.”
A recruitment process will begin this month and a handover is expected in the summer.
