Charity choir in search of pianist

Reverend Beverley Miles, who is Chaplain at Worthing-based charity, Care for Veterans, is in search of a pianist to accompany a new choir she has organised.

The Gifford House Singers, which consists of resident veterans, their family members, staff and volunteers, made their debut at the charity’s Carol Concert at Lancing College Chapel in December. The ensemble thoroughly enjoyed performing and was well-received by the audience, so they have decided to continue and take part in more performances.

The choir already has a leader to put them through their paces, but they need a pianist who will come and play at their practice sessions, which will be once a month on a Saturday for one hour. They would also like the pianist to be available for any performances the choir has in the local area.

Reverend Miles says: “The choir is providing great fun and motivation for all who take part, especially our veterans, who just love to sing. The choir is inclusive of all who wish to join and we have people of all abilities. We just want singers who appreciate the joy of singing, and the smiles on the veteran’s faces as they perform is heartwarming. We do hope we can find a pianist to help us and we promise they’ll have great fun too.”

The choir has its own keyboard – all they need is someone to play it! If you can help and would like to get involved with The Gifford House Singers, please contact Care for Veterans on 01903 218444.

About Care for Veterans

Care for Veterans (formerly The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home) was established in 1919 – the charity celebrates its 99th anniversary this year (2018).

Care for Veterans is a registered charity, providing care and rehabilitation for physically disabled ex-Service personnel and their families. Our residents’ needs are complex and many have multiple disabilities. Many have an Acquired Brain Injury and some have neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s or Multiple Sclerosis. Others are paralysed or do not have use of their limbs and some are terminally ill. We support on average 140 residents a year.

  • We care for up to 60 residents at any one time.
  • Our residents are aged between 32 and 99.
  • Our residents represent the tri-services: Royal Navy, Army and RAF.

Services at Care for Veterans include nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, an active social and recreation department, rehabilitation kitchen, a chaplaincy service, counselling, IT facilities, a rehabilitation garden, sensory room, coffee shop and function room and regular outings on our specially adapted coach.

With no regular government funding, Care for Veterans must raise over £1.9 million each year to maintain its nursing and rehabilitation services for ex-Servicemen and women.
