Main Purpose of the Role
To be the NFA’s lead for grants and trust writing, and general support to fundraising.
Environment of the Job
The Not Forgotten Association is a small not for profit organisation, which exists to organise and host a whole range of events, entertainment and recreation for the military serving wounded, injured or sick and for ex-service men and women with disabilities. We are renowned for our personal style and ethos, and for the exceptional and wide ranging support we provide to our beneficiaries. The organisation is funded by donations and is overseen by a board of Trustees. The job is based in the Association’s offices at 2 Grosvenor Gardens SW1W 0DH, but requires the post holder to be prepared to travel to support the charity’s activities throughout the UK.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Implementing programme of applications to grant giving military and civilian trusts, foundations and charities.
- Developing a strategy for identifying and getting to know major benefactors and introducing them to the charity.
- Developing relationships with grant giving organisations and ensuring recognition for all donors, fundraisers and supporters.
- Managing timely submission of applications to grant giving military and civilian trusts and charities emphasising the value of the charity’s unique work.
- Monitoring the grant application process and providing interim and final reporting to the grantor in line with terms of grant agreement.
- Co-ordination and oversight of acknowledging and thanking those who give grants to the charity.
- Contribute to and help implement a strategy for all fundraising activity in the charity to match the budget and expenditure.
- Work with the Fundraising Coordinator to meet the NFA’s income needs.
- With the Fundraising Co-ordinator develop and implement new fundraising ideas for approval by the SMT.
- Work with Head of Finance on budgets and cash flow projections.
Other Duties and tasks
- Attending NFA events, specifically Royal events.
- Carry out additional duties as requested by the Senior Management Team (SMT).
Dimensions of job
The individual will be required to help other members of the staff during periods of high activity and be prepared to represent the charity at events as directed by the SMT. In addition to the above tasks the individual will be expected to identify areas for job specific training which will improve their ability to successfully perform their role.

It is critical that the applicant has a strong empathy with the charity’s objectives and our beneficiary base.
- Proven successful grant writing experience.
- Understands the requirements and complexities of grant writing and donor researching.
- Unquestionable ethics – this charity is as much about doing the right things as well as doing them right.
- An accomplished and relaxed networker who understands the importance of developing relationships and is proficient at doing so.
- Understands charitable fundraising.
- Fully conversant with the gift aid aspects of fundraising.
- Displays initiative, being able to work to time scales and meet deadlines effectively with the ability to manage own tasks/priorities effectively.
- Dynamic and proactive in finding solutions and enhancements, presenting them to the SMT and implementation, as directed.
- A quick learner who has established organisational and planning skills.
- The maturity, self-discipline and self-motivation to work without supervision.
- A confident and fluent communicator both verbal and written in particular, to have an excellent & proven standard of written English.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to engage socially with confidence with beneficiaries, benefactors and the wider public, and represent the charity at outside events.
- Must possess comprehensive IT skills as well as excellent writing, editing and proofreading abilities.
- Should have a good understanding of office management and communication systems.
- A team player who works collaboratively and is ready and willing to play their part in all the charity’s activities.
- A demonstrable flexible work ethic.
- Prepared to travel to attend charity events.
