An eight-year-old boy is taking on the challenge of walking 10 miles on Saturday 30 March to help blind veterans around the country.
Seb, 8 and a pupil at Saltdean Primary School, decided to step up to the plate to help raise funds to for the military charity Blind Veterans UK. The walk’s start and finish line will be at the charity’s rehabilitation centre in Ovingdean where his father works as Facilities Lead.
Seb says: “I’m really excited to take part in the walk this weekend and march with the veterans that my Daddy works with. I want to raise as much money as I can – my target was £200 but now I’ve passed £500 and I’d love to raise even more.”
His Dad, who has worked with the charity for 8 years, says: “Seb signed up for this as he loves a challenge and we’ve all been amazed at how much he has raised so far. I know I’m his Dad so am obviously biased but he’s such a good lad and every donation he gets makes him so chuffed!”
For those wishing to support the charity but not able to undertake the challenge, volunteers are also hosting a ‘Meet Up Brew Up’ at the chapel at the charity’s centre in Ovingdean from 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm. Visitors can come and join in with some biscuit themed fun and enjoy a cup of tea with supporters and veterans.
The ‘Meet Up Brew Up’ is perfect for people wishing to help the charity welcome back the walkers with a hot drink and biscuits before medals are presented to those who have completed the challenge.
The 10 mile walk and ‘Meet Up Brew Up’ are both part of Blind Veterans UK’s March Is For Veterans which allows people to support the charity in various ways throughout the month of March. You can find out more at blindveterans.org.uk/marchisforveterans.
