Every year, Chippingdale Cricket Club organises a curry night and auction at local award-winning curry restaurant, Mahaan, to raise money for two local charities.
Care for Veterans and Turning Tides benefit from the money raised by the sale of auction items, which are donated to the Cricket Club over the course of the year. A diverse range of items were auctioned and every lot sold to the generous audience who attended and enjoyed the amazing curry.
Each charity was presented with a cheque for £641.54 by Paul Wood, Paul Baker and Pete Mansell from Chippingdale Cricket Club. Also in attendance at the presentation were Ali from Mahaan, Cllr Hazel Thorpe, Mayor of Worthing and 88-year-old Doug Waghorn, an ex-RAF veteran and resident at Care for Veterans, who gratefully received the cheque on behalf of the charities.

“We really are very grateful to Chippingdale Cricket Club and Mahaan for their kind and continued support for our veterans over many years. The curry night and auction is a fantastic annual event, much enjoyed by those who attend, and £641 is a fabulous sum of money which we very much appreciate. This money will be very well spent on the veterans in our care.”

“Turning Tides could not continue to help the homeless and insecurely housed in our community without the support of local groups like Chippingdale Cricket Club raising much-needed funds for us. Their continued support is very much appreciated by everyone involved with our charity. This was an amazing amount of money which will really help.”

About Care for Veterans
Care for Veterans (formerly The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home) was established in 1919 – the charity celebrates its centenary this year.
Care for Veterans is a registered charity, providing care and rehabilitation for physically disabled ex-Service personnel and their families. Our residents’ needs are complex and many have multiple disabilities. Many have an Acquired Brain Injury and some have neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s or Multiple Sclerosis. Others are paralysed or do not have use of their limbs and some are terminally ill. We support on average 140 residents a year.
We care for up to 60 residents at any one time.
Our residents are aged between 34 and 100.
Our residents represent the tri-services: Royal Navy, Army and RAF.
Services at Care for Veterans include nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, an active social and recreation department, rehabilitation kitchen, a chaplaincy service, counselling, IT facilities, a rehabilitation garden, sensory room, function room, and regular outings on our specially adapted coach.
With no regular government funding, Care for Veterans must raise over £1.9 million each year to maintain its nursing and rehabilitation services for ex-Servicemen and women.
