Adjustment to Veterans UK services

As a result of COVID 19 Veterans UK have had to make a number of adjustments to their services. Details of these changes can be found here. These changes include:

A reduction in the hours of the Veterans UK helpline. This will now operate from 8am to 4pm (Monday to Friday) with callers who need immediate emotional support outside these hours routed to the Samaritans 24 hours helpline.

All but the most exceptional face to face visits for the Veterans Welfare Service/Defence Transition Service and Integrated Personal Commissioning for Veterans have been suspended with immediate effect as a protection for our clients and our staff.  Advice, information and support will continue to be provided via telephone, email or letter and our welfare staff will remain available to assist veterans in need at this difficult time. Anyone in urgent need of assistance can find further information here or by contacting the Veterans UK helpline on:

Freephone (UK only):
0808 1914 2 18
Telephone (overseas):
+44 1253 866 043

War Pension Scheme/Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) Medical Examinations have now been cancelled for up to three months and those with dates will be contacted directly by the Department for Work and Pensions about future arrangements. Veterans UK is exploring whether claims can be progressed without an assessment and more information will follow.

Appeal Tribunal Hearings against War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Scheme decisions have been cancelled from 20 March until further notice in England, Scotland and Wales. Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service will contact those affected. Northern Ireland has not yet made a decision on hearings but we will publish information on this as soon as it is available.
