Three new welfare navigator posts have been created by the RAF Benevolent Fund to handle all incoming welfare enquiries. Lucy Cannon, Lindsay Hutton, and Alex Angeloudes will answer enquiries by phone, email and online, bringing the service back in-house.
As the first point of contact for members of the RAF Family, the welfare navigators will guide beneficiaries through the Fund’s support services and direct them to relevant services from other organisations. This will allow the Fund to bolster its welfare provision by getting vulnerable members of the RAF Family to the right support swiftly. Crucially, this also involves a follow-up function to ensure enquirers reach the support they need in a timely manner or renavigate if appropriate avenues have not opened up or delays are incurred.
Paul Hughesdon, Director of Welfare and Policy at the RAF Benevolent Fund, said:
“The welfare navigators will play a key role in the Fund’s wider plan to improve the way we support the RAF Family. They will place the needs of our beneficiaries at the heart of what they do, providing a compassionate and inclusive service to any member of the RAF Family facing adversity. No one knows what we can do for our beneficiaries better than us, so we’re thrilled to have our helpline in-house once again. It is an important and substantial step forward in providing beneficiaries with an assured level of service while ensuring those who need our help most don’t get lost or confused by the process.”
