Army Officer’s £100k Challenge for Veterans in Need

A British Army officer will tackle 12 incredible challenges in 2022 with the aim of raising £100,000 to support Armed Forces veterans in their battle with their mental health.

Jen Price, 31, is embarking on a year-long series of arduous physical adventures to raise vital funds for the Veterans’ Foundation and provide British service personnel the support they desperately need.

Starting with January’s cross-country ski marathon in Italy, Jen’s challenges include a 125-mile Canoe race, a self-supported cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End and completing a multi-stage Ultra-Marathon in Jordan.

After climbing Kilmanjaro and the Matterhorn during the year, the ‘Jennevolve’ quest ends with another climb in December, when she will summit Cierro Aconcagua – South America’s highest peak.

“I’m terrified and excited about taking on this challenge,” said Jen.

“But I’m determined to see it through in order to support the Veterans’ Foundation and fund projects for veterans facing mental health challenges.”

After seeing colleagues and friends struggle with their mental health, especially after leaving the Armed Forces, Jen is passionate about helping those who fight an invisible war.

“It is rare to go through life without experiencing personal trauma of some sort, whether that has been on the battlefield or in your personal life,” Jen explained.

“I am a firm believer that trauma should not define you but can be harnessed to motivate you in endlessly positive ways, and it is never too late to get back on track.”

Jen will be writing blogs and making short update films throughout 2022 which will be shared by both the Veterans’ Foundation and by Jen herself on her own website and social media channels.

But which challenge is she most nervous about? It might surprise you, but neither climbing some of the world’s highest mountains or running multiple marathons in the desert feature.

“Devizes to Westminster (125-mile canoe race) is probably the one I’m most terrified about if I’m honest.

I did a practice paddle of sorts with a friend not long ago and I can’t tell you how hard it is!”

Every penny donated will go to helping British Armed Forces personnel in need and Major General David Shaw, CEO and founder of the Veterans’ Foundation, was thrilled to see that Jen had chosen the charity to raise funds for.

“We wish Jen the best of luck in her 12 challenges – it won’t be easy but she has great determination to succeed.

We’ll be following her journey and we hope you’ll join us and consider supporting her mission of raising funds for veterans in need.”
