On 2 June 2022, four teams representing the leading Armed Forces charity, Walking With The Wounded (‘WWTW’), will climb four of the UK’s highest peaks to light beacons to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
WWTW is the chosen charity to light beacons on top of Scafell Pike (England), Mount Snowdon (Wales), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Slieve Donard (Northern Ireland). Four teams of 8 to 12 people, consisting of WWTW staff members, beneficiaries, volunteers, and supporters from Sunbelt Rentals, will summit the peaks. Each team will be carrying a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee beacon which will be lit in tribute to Her Majesty The Queen between 9.15 pm to 9.45 pm. The WWTW teams will be led by Mountain Leaders provided by Challenge The Wild.
Fergus Williams, WWTW CEO, commented,
“Walking With The Wounded (‘WWTW’) is honoured to support the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations to mark Her Majesty’s unparalleled 70-years’ of service. As part of this, on June 2nd, 2022, teams of WWTW staff, dedicated volunteers and beneficiaries will climb four of the highest peaks in the UK to light four beacons in tribute to Her Majesty the Queen who has dedicated her life to the Commonwealth and its people.”
Each of the four peaks that are being summited by WWTW teams has been sponsored by corporate supporters. Palgrave has sponsored Scafell Pike, SeaJacks has sponsored Ben Nevis, Isadores has sponsored Mount Snowdon and Stephenson Smart has sponsored Slieve Donard.
As part of the celebrations over 1,500 beacons will be lit across the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, and one in each capital city of the Commonwealth countries.
