The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) is inviting supporters to host a Stand Easy Coffee morning during Mental Health Awareness Week to raise funds to support mental health within the Naval community.
People are encouraged to get involved between 15th – 21st of May, whenever and wherever they can.
The money raised through the Stand Easy campaign will help the RNRMC provide support to members of the Naval community who need it most.
‘Stand Easy’ is a term traditionally used to announce the ship’s crew sanctioned break. By inviting people to host their own Stand Easy coffee mornings, the RNRMC hopes to encourage people to take time out of their day to unwind and chat with their family, friends or colleagues.
Supporting mental health within the Royal Navy community is a central strand of the RNRMC’s work. Through partnerships with a wide range of military and civilian organisations they provide quality care and support for those suffering from complex mental health issues, funding treatment, counselling, and outreach services. From improving social spaces on ships and bases, to helping elderly veterans remain connected, RNRMC funded projects help combat the causes of mental health issues such as loneliness and isolation, as well as managing the effects.
Sarah-Jayne Craig, who hosted her own stand-easy event in 2021, said:
“The Stand Easy was a brilliant way to get friends and neighbours together to raise money, whilst enjoying lots of cake, something that was accessible for everyone to take part in. Throughout the day we discovered a lot of the people we invited had a Naval connection that we weren’t aware of until holding the Stand Easy, so it was a great way to raise awareness of the Charity and learn new things about people that we wouldn’t have ordinarily known. We look forward to taking part again in 2023!”
Pamela Russell, Corporate Officer at the RNRMC, said:
“We are excited about this year’s Stand Easy campaign and encourage people of all ages and walks of life to take part. It is a fantastic way to meet with friends and loved ones while also raising money for a very worthy cause. The funds raised will go towards vital support for the Naval community, including within the areas of Mental Health and wellbeing.”
