Helping veterans gain motorsports qualifications and employment in the automotive industry

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is delighted to award a £27,000 grant to Mission Motorsport, The Forces’ Motorsport Charity, to help mentally and physically injured veterans rehabilitate through motorsport and train for new careers in the automotive industry.

Our grant will support Mission Motorsport’s “Race, Retrain and Recover” model. The funds will be used for over 60 sport events reaching around 850 Army veterans and families; help maintain Mission Motorsport’s training wing vehicle fleet and equipment; and place veterans into employment opportunities in the automotive sector.

Last year, Mission Motorsport welcomed 534 Army beneficiaries to sporting events, provided over 66 recovery sport events and directly supported 26 wounded, injured and sick (WIS) veterans into employment.

James Cameron, Chief Executive Officer Mission Motorsport, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity for its continued support. Using motorsport as a hook to get those who are harder to reach out of the house, these events help beneficiaries to combat social isolation, engage with others, build their confidence and enjoy activities that they would not normally access. As we transform our training to help those leaving the Army to harness their skills, this generous grant means we are able to collaborate with others and help more beneficiaries on their recovery journey.”

Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, added:

“Many veterans come out of the Army with first-rate engineering and mechanical skills that can be valuable to wider industry, especially in the automotive sector. We are proud to make another grant this year to Mission Motorsport’s valuable work in promoting motorsport as a recovery activity and career opportunity for Army veterans.”
