Last week Edward Harley was advanced to CBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List for services to heritage, charity and the community.
Mr Harley, 59, from Brampton Bryan, is the President of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, Herefordshire Branch, which is delighted to see him move from OBE to CBE.
Tim Howson, SSAFA Herefordshire Chair said:
“As well as being our Lord-Lieutenant, Edward is a hugely supportive Branch President and we are proud and honoured to have him as such.”
SSAFA support veterans, service people, and their families in their times of need, and is run by a network of volunteers throughout the world.
Mr Harley said:
“I am delighted to receive the CBE, it is a great honour and, as with all such awards, it is a result of having been supported and helped by outstanding people – most particularly my wife Victoria.
“As His Majesty’s representative in the County of Herefordshire, it is very appropriate that I have a strong link with the military charities that operate in the county. I am proud to be the Branch President of SSAFA and I much enjoy and appreciate the regular interaction with this important charity which makes such a great contribution to the welfare of veterans.”
