The Royal Hospital Chelsea is seeking a passionate, creative, and accomplished individual to join our team as a Visitor Experience & Public Programmes Manager.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea has recently secured a £3.2million grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to restore and adapt our Grade II* Stable Yard, designed by Sir John Soane, into a state-of-the-art Visitor Centre. The Visitor Centre will feature a café, shop, free exhibitions, and an outreach space. With an expected annual footfall of 31,000 to 36,000 visits, including 8,500 to 13,100 tour attendees, this project offers an exceptional opportunity for the successful candidate to shape a compelling visitor experience.

Working closely with the Head of Visitor Experience, your primary responsibility will be to curate and manage a wide-ranging series of public programmes for our target audiences. This will encompass existing Chelsea Pensioner led tours as well as the development of new specialised events. You will play a key role in leading the Chelsea History Festival, a prominent event established in 2019 in partnership with the National Army Museum and Chelsea Physic Garden. Additionally, you will work with the Audience Engagement team to deliver premium heritage experiences, maximise cross-selling opportunities, and attract significant level of commercial income from visitors.

This is a permanent role requiring 41 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary, but we provide time off in lieu for events outside regular working hours.  The salary range for this role is £34,714 – £35,950.
