Friendly football match turns competitive for charity

Ilkeston Charity Football Club (Ilkeston CFC) held a friendly fundraising match last month.

The game was between Ilkeston Charity Football Club team and Ilkeston Town Junior Coaches.  The match, albeit ‘friendly’, was still highly competitive in nature and raised vital funds for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

The game saw goal after goal being scored, but Ilkeston CFC came out on top winning 7-4. The evening was enjoyed by all and the club supporters were very generous with their donations, raising more than £500 for SSAFA.

This match marked the beginning of a new partnership between Ilkeston CFC and the charity.  More games are planned as the season progresses, as well as a major charity tournament in June 2024.

Paul Smithurst, SSAFA Regional Fundraising Manager said

“It was a cracking evening down at the New Manor Ground. There was a good turnout with some excellent footballing talent on show. Ilkeston CFC ended up worthy winners on the night, with some good goals scored. I would like to say a big thank you to all who participated, and a special thanks to Ilkeston Town Football Club for facilitating the event.”
