Contract: Permanent, Full-time 35 hours a week

DMWS is an international charity that has been providing medical welfare support to the Armed Forces Community for over 80 years. We are now recruiting a Welfare Officer based in Lisburn and Belfast, but capable of working across Northern Ireland, to support the military community.
Clinicians can achieve far reaching and significant improvements in physical and mental health issues, but if underlying challenges such as the basis of a mental health concern, drivers behind substance abuse, social isolation, inappropriate housing, homelessness or financial worries remain, active and concerning factors for the individual recovery can’t be fully achieved or sustained. DMWS tackles the non-clinical issues that contribute to poor physical and mental wellbeing, cause stress and anxiety as well as issues and concerns which delay a person being discharged from hospital and that cause unnecessary readmission to hospital through our proven life-changing welfare support. We operate an integrative model of provision which focuses on three key areas of support: physical health concerns, psychosocial contexts, and mental health and wellbeing.
The responsibilities of the Welfare Officer will include the welfare and effective management of referrals as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Attending multi-disciplinary meetings and carrying out joint, and lone visits to patients, and liaising with other agencies within the hospital and community to ensure the best outcome for patients and families. You will be required to correctly assess the welfare needs of service users with unfaltering professionalism and sensitivity. You will need to be able to provide a rapid, solution-driven personal response to support in times of need, or in crisis situations.
