The Army Benevolent Fund is delighted to award a £5,000 grant to On Course Foundation’s work assisting injured veterans’ recovery through golf events and employment in the golf industry.
Our charity promotes the health and wellbeing of injured veterans and helps them transition to civilian life. On Course Foundation is the only golf-specific military charity in the UK and runs a wide range of golf activities that help veterans to recover their self-confidence and develop social contacts. Our grant will contribute towards PGA tuition fees for several golf events, as well as skills days and employment courses, for 95 Army beneficiaries.
One veteran beneficiary, who served in the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment and the Yorkshire Regiment, praised the charity’s work: “It’s a massive stress relief, not just hitting the ball, but being with others, something we’re used to in the Army. When I left the Army, I became a loner and golf is the only reason I’m here today. I’d advise anybody to get out there and do it.”
Alistair McKay Forbes, Managing Director, On Course Foundation, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to receive a grant from the Army Benevolent Fund and are very grateful for their ongoing support. This year we were able to deliver a record number of confidence building golf activities and this grant has allowed us to plan our 2024 schedule with confidence, supporting the recovery of current beneficiaries and isolated veterans that we are yet to reach.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer Army Benevolent Fund, added:
“Army veterans and outdoors sports such as golf are a natural mix. On Course Foundation does fantastic work helping veterans, many of whom have complex physical and mental health conditions. We were only too pleased to provide another grant towards its work next year.”
