The Army Benevolent Fund is delighted to award a £10,000 grant to Hounds for Heroes towards its assistance dogs partnerships with vulnerable former soldiers.
The Army Benevolent Fund promotes the mental health and wellbeing of the Army family as a priority. We support various charities who work with animals to foster companionship with disabled and vulnerable ex-Armed Forces personnel and help them rehabilitate and recover from injury and trauma.
Our grant will fund the running costs of the Hounds for Heroes’ Ability not Disability project that fosters close partnerships between specially trained assistance dogs and their beneficiaries; the dogs are a lifeline for former soldiers coping with conflict, disability and bereavement.
Nobby, a beneficiary who served in the Army for over 11 years and was partnered with his dog Captain in 2011, said:
“Captain’s help isn’t just physical assistance; he also provides emotional support.”
Debbie Pick, Fundraising Manager, Hounds for Heroes, said:
“The support of the Army Benevolent Fund will enable our charity to continue creating life enhancing partnerships with one of our wonderful assistance dogs.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer, Army Benevolent Fund, added:
“We are committed to promoting the recovery of injured former soldiers and funding charities who partner them with dogs to improve their mental health and wellbeing. We are pleased to fund Hounds for Heroes’ amazing work this year.”
