Helping veterans to soldier on with assistance dogs

The Army Benevolent Fund is delighted to award a £20,000 grant to Service Dogs UK to enable former soldiers to access its assistance dogs programme.

Service Dogs UK is the only accredited UK charity who match specially trained “rescue” dogs with former soldiers who need practical help in managing the symptoms of PTSD. The charity uses various positive empowerment methods and tools to develop a strong bond of mutual trust and kindness between veterans and their dogs.

Our grant will contribute towards the costs of the Soldiering On with an Assistance Dog project to enable four more Army veterans to achieve fully accredited assistance dogs partnerships.

Garry Botterill, Founder and Operations Director, Service Dogs UK, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be awarded this grant by the Army Benevolent Fund to support Army veterans on our life-changing programme. We know that our assistance dogs can make a profound difference to those affected by PTSD and that the journey they will embark on will change the lives of both.”

Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer, Army Benevolent Fund, said:

“Service Dogs UK is a unique award-winning charity doing fantastic work with former soldiers diagnosed with serious mental health conditions. We were pleased to help more veterans develop lifelong partnerships with these very special dogs this year.”
