Navy veteran nominated for prestigious Award

Natalie Elis-Burt, Welfare Officer for the Royal Naval Association (RNA) Swansea Branch, has been recognised for her outstanding efforts throughout South Wales to alleviate homelessness, suffering, and promote wellness, especially in the veteran community.

Natalie, who is a veteran of the Royal Navy herself, is an active fundraiser for the Armed Forces Bikers Veterans Charity, who regularly give emergency grants to assist homeless veterans. She is also a Trustee for the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, which supports all serving, former serving personnel and Royal Naval families.

Natalie said:

“I’m particularly proud of the work I have done to support veterans with health barriers back into employment. Everything really though; I have volunteered for SSAFA, for RBL, all sorts, because I believe our veterans need a little extra help sometimes. I’m made up to have been short-listed and be given a chance to highlight the brilliant charities I’m involved with.”

Natalie has been nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to those who have spent much of their lives after Service championing veterans of the Armed Forces.

Colin W Johnson MBE, Chair, RNA Swansea said:

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Natalie for over 35 years. In that time, I have been amazed at the enthusiasm and total commitment she puts into all tasks and roles she undertakes. As a Cadet, and in the Royal Navy where she was awarded the Owen Cup as best new entry in her basic training at HMS Raleigh. Natalie has taken on the position of Branch Welfare Officer for the Royal Naval Association in West Glamorgan and has carried out the role with her usual zeal and enthusiasm and is a great support to the service veterans in the area.”

The Welsh Veteran’s Awards ceremony is held in Cardiff on 3 July.

The RNA welcomes serving, veteran, families and friends of the Royal Navy. Through activities, branch meetings and a thriving online community the Association promotes connection and comradeship. To find out more, including how to join for free, visit: royal-naval-association.co.uk
