Sophie Zgraja, a resident of Chelsea in London, will embark on a 100km ultra-marathon around Battersea Park, Central London, on Sunday 28 July 2024. Her efforts aim to support leading Armed Forces charity, Walking With The Wounded (WWTW), which offers vital support to UK veterans and their families.
Sophie, a Strategy Consultant, discovered her passion for running five years ago despite having no prior long distance running experience. Her past achievements include running a marathon on her 50-meter driveway, climbing the height of Ben Nevis using her stairs, and completing 100,000 steps in one day. The upcoming Battersea ultra-marathon marks her most formidable challenge to date.
Reflecting on the upcoming event, Sophie said,
“Despite the various challenges I’ve completed, I still don’t consider myself a naturally good runner. Yet, I’m about to take on my longest run ever—100km around Battersea Park. I’m so grateful for the support of my local running clubs, Scrambled Legs and OneTrack, who are helping me through the training and will keep me motivated on the day. While I know this challenge will be tough, it pales in comparison to the struggles faced by many veterans when they leave the Armed Forces. That’s why I’m running for Walking With The Wounded.”
Victoria Doran, Head of Relationships at WWTW, added,
“We are in awe of the incredible challenges that fundraisers like Sophie take on in support of Walking With The Wounded and those who served. We can’t wait to see how she fares and will be cheering her on from the sidelines. Every penny that Sophie raises will positively impact the lives of veterans and their families across the UK.”
