Part Time (3 days p.w) – Offered initially as 6-month contract
£30,000 p.a. (pro rata £18,000)
Based: South Devon.
Veterans Outdoors is a unique charity with a remarkable track record in improving the lives of military veterans through outdoor activity, social support and a ground-breaking programme of emotional resilience training. It offers support and friendship to our veterans, those transitioning out and those still serving in our armed forces. We need a highly organised, compassionate, organised and understanding person to help us look after our expanding cohort of beneficiaries. Veterans are referred to us by other veterans’ organisations, GP’s surgeries or NHS Mental Health Services and others come straight to us, ‘self-referring’ after hearing about what we do.
Reporting directly to – and working closely with – the CEO, this role requires an understanding of the issues that affect veterans and those transitioning from the forces. We especially encourage applications from veterans from all services.
The successful candidate will often work in outdoor locations, devising and leading events and activities with a cohort but there’s also a small amount of important admin work to do on timetables, budgets and the management of charity finances. The role may involve occasional weekend working.
Desirable for this role:
- An understanding of the mental health and social needs of military veterans.
- An understanding of the challenges of transitioning from the forces into civilian life.
- Experience of working with and mentoring vulnerable adults.
- Good IT skills – and the ability to learn more.
- A love of the outdoors, a thick skin, a sense of humour and the ability to work as part of a team
- A full, clean UK drivers’ licence.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic adult safeguarding course and a DBS check. Mental Health First Aid and ASiST training will also be offered.
If you’d like to talk to someone about this role, or to apply, contact us at: info@veteransoutdoors.org.uk Applications should include a CV and a brief explanation (no more than 2 sides of A4) of why you think you’d be suitable and what you would bring to the role.
