The Veterans Charity reaches new milestone in welfare delivery on Armistice Day

The Veterans Charity has announced that it has now delivered support for the 1000th time in 2024. This is a new record for the small, Devon-based charity which provides urgent and vital support to Veterans who find themselves experiencing hardship and the distress it can cause.

Formed in 2008, The Veterans Charity focusses on delivering rapid support for Veterans across the entire UK. Around 75% of the charity’s caseload each year is referred by many other organisations who rely on it to deliver a quick solution to the most urgent needs of Veterans. An increasing number of Veterans are also reaching out directly for assistance.

The Veterans Charity has experienced an extraordinary increase in the demand for its support programmes in 2024 which include food shopping, utilities, clothing and footwear, communications and fuel/travel assistance.

The charity is proud to have several highly effective partnerships with organisations including Forces Support, the Royal Logistic Corps Association, Women’s Royal Army Corps Association and the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, all of whom assist with vital funding contributions towards the charity’s welfare delivery.

Danny Greeno, CEO of The Veterans Charity said

We are immensely proud of this latest achievement as it clearly demonstrates our capability to deliver vital support for so many Veterans, in their hour of need. We have seen an increasing number of Veterans being referred to us over the past 4-5 years including a huge leap of around 40% over the past 12 months alone. We are very grateful to those who support our work and also to our small but remarkable team who help to deliver so much amazing support.”

On average, there is just myself and one of our fabulous Volunteer

“Welfare Officers in the office on a daily basis, very ably supported by our Volunteer Office Manager who is with us twice a week. To be able to provide so much support and with relatively very small income and team, is something we are very proud of indeed.

President and founding trustee of The Veterans Charity, General Sir Bob Pascoe said

We have been forecasting this milestone for some time and to reach it on Armistice Day is a most appropriate coincidence. For more than a decade, the Veterans Charity has refined and delivered an efficient and cost-effective service to assist Veterans who find themselves experiencing hardship.

“I am joined by my fellow Trustees in deploring the large number of ex-service people who are in such difficult circumstances, but we are proud to be able to provide some help to so many. I am grateful to our CEO Danny Greeno and our team of volunteers for all the hard work they continue to put into this small but effective Charity”.
