Lieutenant Commander Mark Driscoll and Team Eaglet are set to take on the Liverpool Half Marathon on 23 March 2025, raising funds for Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity and Tom Harrison House – helping service personnel into lifeboat of addiction recovery.
Alcohol addiction can deeply impact health, relationships, and well-being, but recovery is possible. Lt Cr Mark Driscoll has not only overcome alcohol dependency but is now an inspiring figure for others. After turning his life around, Mark has become a strong advocate for breaking the stigma surrounding addiction.
His journey wasn’t easy. Struggling with poor health and strained relationships, Mark reached a breaking point and said,
“I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, and I desperately wanted to stop. Finally, I lifted my hand up and asked for help.”
With support, he transformed his life, losing 17kg and achieving a remarkable bleep test score of 16.3.
As part of his recovery, Mark began giving back. A few years ago, he ran the Warrington Half Marathon, raising over £1,000 for the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC). In his role as First Lieutenant of HMS Eaglet, he inspired others to focus on their fitness and well-being.
Now, as Executive Officer (XO) of HMS Eaglet, he continues to champion fitness and support for those in recovery. In a bid to raise funds and awareness for RNRMC and Tom Harrison House, Mark and 25% of HMS Eaglet’s crew are taking on the Liverpool Half Marathon. The team, made up of sailors from all ranks and services, is united by one message: recovery is possible, and together, we’re stronger.
For Mark, this event is about more than raising funds– it’s a powerful statement of hope and solidarity for anyone struggling with addiction.
