An opportunity has arisen for the role of an Armed Forces Outreach Worker. Employed by Gateshead Council you will provide a service to the Armed Forces Community in Gateshead but will be part of a regional Armed Forces Outreach Service that also operates in Newcastle and Durham.
The Armed Forces Outreach Service is an award- winning service providing support, advice and signposting to the Armed Forces Community on a range of issues including housing, debt advice, rent and council tax arrears as well as assisting with funding for white goods, home furnishings, training or employment as a few examples.
We are seeking someone who has an understanding of the current issues facing veterans and will have the experience of either time spent serving in the Armed Forces or experience of working with Armed Forces. You will need to have knowledge of the re-settlement process for veterans and be able to demonstrate knowledge of data protection and confidentiality as well as demonstrate a good understanding of equality and diversity and how this would be displayed in the workplace.
You will be required to have 5 GCSE’s or equivalent at Grade 9-4/A-C (including Maths and English) or relevant demonstratable experience with evidence of continual professional development and a willingness to undertake additional training as required.
Other essential requirements for this role are that you have experience of using ICT including Microsoft Office packages with experience of maintaining accurate records. The need to have excellent organisational and time management experience and experience of working on your own initiative are also essential requirements for this role.
You will also need to have experience of effective communication methods and engaging various audiences and have the ability to empathise and support others.
The working week is 22 hours over 3 days. The post will currently require a mixture of remote homeworking and time in the office and will be a 12 month fixed term position from the commencement of employment date subject to review
