***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***
Would you like to be part of a friendly and supportive team that works to support non-UK Army serving personnel and their families? Why not apply to become the next member of our Foreign & Commonwealth team?
As part of a small team, you will provide advice to Army family members on immigration issues. If you have an understanding and knowledge of Army life and the challenges families face, with good listening and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a remote team, then AFF needs you!
About the role
This role offers the opportunity to join AFF’s Foreign & Commonwealth team, who provide qualified and expert immigration advice to non-UK Army family members.
You’ll be the first point of contact for Army family members seeking immigration advice. You will provide support and advice to them, helping them to access appropriate support from our specialists.
You will support non-UK family members in accessing immigration information by ensuring that the information on the Foreign & Commonwealth pages of our website is kept up-to-date and liaising with the Communications team to make any changes.
You will also play a critical part in ensuring the specialist has the evidence to raise emerging issues with policy makers.
Given the expert nature of the support provided, the successful candidate will be required to study for and complete the Office of Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) Level 1 accreditation. (Study can be completed on AFF time and training, supervision and examination costs would be borne by AFF.)
The post is 35 hours per week and a home-based role (UK only). Unfortunately, due to the difficulties obtaining employer’s liability insurance overseas, it is not possible to offer this role to a candidate based outside the UK.
This post is a fixed-term two-year contract due to the role being funded by a specific grant from an external funder to support our work with non-UK families over the next few years. There is no guarantee that the post will continue beyond May 2025.
The annual salary will be £22,000 and would increase to £24,000 on successful completion of the OISC Level 1 qualification, which the staff member would need to complete within an agreed timeframe and maintain to retain the higher rate of pay.
If you are already OISC qualified, please contact Tracy Connolly, HR Administrator, at recruitment@aff.org.uk to discuss the role responsibilities and remuneration.
What we are looking for
You’ll have an understanding of the impact of Service life on Army families and a keen interest in the welfare and quality of life of Army families, particularly non-UK families.
You’ll be confident helping family members with their immigration enquiries, with first-rate listening skills and the ability to provide clear information and advice. You will be skilled in prioritising your workload and using your time effectively to be able to manage multiple enquiries or areas of work. Given this is a home-based role, you will be self-motivated and able to use your initiative to undertake work.
You will have a willingness to learn, given the requirement to study for the OISC Level 1 accreditation.
We would welcome candidates who have knowledge and understanding of non-UK issues that affect families and who are effective team players. We would also welcome applications from those with experience of engagement in the non-UK community.
A full list of the skills and experience we are looking for can be found in the Job Description.
AFF encourages applications from all sections of the community.
