Three Trustee posts, one with financial experience to become Treasurer.
The Association of ex-Service Drop-In Centres (ASDIC) is a young but evolutionary organisation, reaching across the entire tri-Service veterans’ sector to link the growing number of voluntary Drop-In Centres in the UK. Having been established as an independent charity with a small Trustee Board in 2020, it now wishes to widen and strengthen its governance with the appointment of three further trustees, one of whom will become the Treasurer.
ASDIC itself is based at the RBLI Village in Aylesford, near Maidstone in Kent but operates nationwide. It is about to commence an intensive project to develop data management, standard policies, and membership benefits and training package. Further information on present staff and operations can be found at www.asdic.org.uk.
The present Board consists of the Chairman, present Chair and former CEO of a large and very successful Drop-In in South Wales, the CEO of a group of six Drop-Ins across the country, an experienced Drop-In leader in the South-East and key lead in Forces Connect South-East, and a senior former Infantry Officer. The Treasurer has recently had to resign for personal reasons. In normal times the Board meets quarterly in London, but virtual working has now become commonplace and will probably continue for two or three meetings each year. The trustee positions are unremunerated but reasonable expenses will be paid.
There are no preconceived ideas on who may apply but the Board will of course welcome applications from across the nation and will appreciate widening its diversity and inclusivity. The most important facet is that candidates will have considerable empathy with the tri-Service Armed Forces welfare sector and its veterans, although personal military experience is not necessary. Appointments will be for an initial period of three years, with up to two further 3-year extensions by mutual agreement.
Interested candidates are, in the first instance, invited to email the Chief Executive, Tracy Bryant, (tracy.bryant@asdic.org.uk) with basic personal details to schedule a short information exchange and answer any initial queries, following which they will, by mutual agreement, have a further discussion with the Chairman. These interviews will probably take place over Zoom.
The closing date for applications is Friday 28 May 2021, but appointments of exceptional candidates may be made before that time.
