Care for Veterans celebrates WWII Veteran Ron Parker’s 102nd Birthday

Care for Veterans is proud to announce a remarkable milestone as resident and WWII veteran Ron Parker prepares to celebrate his 102nd birthday on Monday 24 February.

To honour this incredible occasion, Care for Veterans will be hosting a special celebration in their Day Room, bringing together residents, staff, and special guests for a heartwarming tribute to Ron.

The birthday celebration will include a live performance by a local singer, adding to the festive atmosphere. Worthing Town Crier Bob Smytherman will also be in attendance to offer his rousing birthday greetings and mark the occasion in traditional style. To make Ron’s day even more special, the talented Care for Veterans catering team will be baking a custom-made birthday cake in his honour.

Staff members have been working behind the scenes to ensure that this milestone birthday is a truly memorable one, reflecting the respect and admiration held for Ron and his incredible service to the country.

Ron was called up to serve in 1942, at the tender age of 18. Working as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers Regiment in WWII, Ron played a vital role in supporting British forces.

His deployment to Normandy came after the D-Day landings, at a time when the war was still a fervent storm of activity. Ron and his unit were part of the follow-up forces, tasked with rescue operations in the wake of the initial assault. Ron can recall vivid memories of the relentless movement through the war-torn landscapes of Europe, from the beaches of Normandy to the beleaguered city of Antwerp.

“We are incredibly honoured to celebrate Ron’s 102nd birthday,” said Peter Inkpen, CEO at Care for Veterans. “Ron is an inspiration to us all, and we are committed to making his special day one filled with joy, music, and heartfelt appreciation.”
