Fighting With Pride

Fighting With Pride (FWP) – Trustees

Who we are:

Fighting With Pride (FWP) is a ‘lived experience’ LGBTQ+ military charity, created in January 2020, on the twentieth anniversary of the lifting of the ban on LGBTQ+ service – the “gay ban.”

FWP support LGBTQ+ veterans, serving personnel and their families.  This support is particularly to those who were affected by the ‘gay ban’, including thousands of LGBTQ+ service personnel who were removed or forced from service and abandoned, after serving with pride. It is FWP’s aim to restore the military covenant and bring this community back into the armed forces family.

FWP are currently looking for outstanding individuals with compassion, empathy, drive and collaborative thinking, to join the Board and support them in delivering the strategic plan.  We are particularly interested in hearing from those with financial and/or legal backgrounds who can help the charity to meet its obligations in these areas. Trustees will require specialist knowledge and experience of working at a senior level in one or both fields, together with an understanding of charity governance and an appreciation of trusteeship and the corresponding accountabilities.

Sharing a passion for our work, Trustees will be ambassadors for FWP, initiative-takers, with strong leadership, communication and team working skills along with a talent for relationship-building.

Prior trustee experience is valuable, but not essential.  We are really looking for enthusiastic individuals who can bring transferrable skills to support us.

The FWP Board is truly diverse and inclusive, welcoming, and friendly.  Lived experience of being LGBTQ+ or a member of the armed forces are not essential criteria, however, Trustees will understand the history of our community, either as a member or a committed ally.

Time commitment:

In addition to attending six full Board meetings, there will be meetings with the Chair (which also take place six times a year, usually seven to ten days in advance of the full board meeting), plus an annual Away Day and an occasional event.

Terms:

A Trustee appointment is for three years (a Term) and a maximum of three Terms can be served, by invitation of the Board.

Trustee checks:

Successful applicants will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, provide references, and sign declarations (of eligibility to be a Trustee and of no conflict of interests).

Expenses:

This is an unpaid voluntary role; however, out of pocket expenses will be paid.
