Finding your home on Civvy Street: research coming soon!

mmHousing Options Scotland (HOS) is a housing charity with almost 20 years of experience helping disabled people find the right house in the right place. In 2012 the organisation created a pilot project called “Military Matters” which aimed to give housing advice and support to disabled veterans in Scotland, or those who wished to return or relocate to Scotland. Through the life of the Military Matters project, HOS has also carried out housing briefs, created publications and given advice and support to all veterans, those in transition and those currently serving in the Armed Forces.

HOS received funding from the Scottish Veterans Fund for 2016/17 to carry out research on the housing pathways experienced by the Armed Forces community. This research is to provide a robust evidence base from varied housing experiences to ascertain whether veterans, those in transition and those currently serving in the armed forces are satisfied with the service they receive from agencies that are stakeholders in the provision of civilian housing advice.

HOS is now in the final stages of completing this research and has received an overwhelming response so far. The organisation would like to thank everyone who has taken part in this important research. It is hoped that this research will positively inform policy and practice in the future to make sure that veterans, those in transition and those serving in our Armed Forces can find the right house in the right place on civvy street.

HOS’s CEO Moira Bayne said “So far this research has given us great insight in to the needs and experiences of veterans and those in the Armed Forces when it comes to housing on civvy street. We look forward to sharing the research when it is published and hope it can make a positive difference to the lives of veterans and those in the Armed Forces.”

HOS will be launching this research early in the new financial year, so keep an eye on HOS’s website for more information.
