Representatives of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and its operations in Scotland paid a courtesy call to His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde – more commonly known as Faslane – on 20 March.
While just a fleeting visit, it was an opportunity for Sandra Miller and Scott Cunningham – respectively the charity’s Corporate and Special Events Officer and Challenge and Community Events Officer – to chat with personnel at the base.
Scott and Sandra spoke to men and women of all ranks about SSAFA, how it helps the Armed Forces community – past and present, Reserves and Regular, and their families – and gave details of the 2024 Kiltwalk season that SSAFA is signed up to with a record-breaking number of entries.
Speaking later, Scott said:
“Sandra and I were afforded excellent hospitality by Chief Petty Officer Murray Anderson when we visited Faslane, and it was a pleasure to meet Base Executive Officer Commander Peter Noblett and Base Warrant Officer Rattler Morgan.
“Giving Royal Navy personnel – some part way through their careers, some nearing the end, and some just setting out as ratings or junior officers – a lead on what SSAFA, the UK’s oldest tri-service charity can do for them at any point during or after their careers was a privilege – and who knows; maybe we got a few people interested in the forthcoming Kiltwalks, too.”
