Malcolm Noble has announced he will step down as Chairperson in December 2022.
Working as a school headmaster in London, Malcolm joined the charity’s Grant Awarding Committee in 2008, before becoming a Trustee and Chairperson in 2011.
Malcolm joined our charity when it was known as the Royal Caledonian Education Trust, which operated from a London office to support three members of staff to deliver education and grant-giving services.
Malcolm has guided the charity to make many big changes since then – from moving our offices to Edinburgh, and establishing a biannual conference for educators and professionals to overseeing the charity change its name, strategic vision plus so much more.
Malcolm reflects on his time with Forces Children Scotland and passes on a message to the team, trustees & supporters, as well as to children & young people from armed forces & veteran families.
What’s more, our team has grown to thirteen members of staff to build upon our education & grant-giving work to now offer further mental health & wellbeing, youth participation, family support as well as policy & influencing services.
Malcolm has passionately got involved in raising funds for Forces Children Scotland over the years and has completed many charity walks in support of the charity. Better still, he recently published a book to further support our fundraising efforts.
Reflecting on his time with Forces Children Scotland, Malcolm said:
“Having served as Chairperson for over 11 years, I felt that I had achieved my main aims for the charity, which included moving our centre of operations to Scotland, to transform what was a small grant awarding charity into one which offers a wide range of services and to ensure we raise the funds required to achieve our ambitious plans.
“I believe that I will be leaving Forces Children Scotland in a much stronger position than I found it. Working directly with beneficiaries, as well as many partners across the United Kingdom, I have every confidence the charity will continue to deliver high-quality services, expand its work and make Scotland a place where all children and young people from armed forces and veteran families can realise their potential and thrive.
“I wish my successor, trustees as well as the charity’s staff and beneficiaries, all best wishes for the future.”
Laura Falconer, Chief Executive Officer for Forces Children Scotland said:
“Malcolm has not only been a driving force but has guided the charity safely through the challenges of the past two years. His wisdom, passion, and enthusiasm for supporting children and young people from serving, reservist, and veteran families have been invaluable. That support has been extended to the whole staff team and I would like to add my personal thanks to Malcolm for helping me settle into the CEO role. I wish him all the best in the many endeavours he has planned for the future.”
