Dale Law, a former Royal Marines Commando, who is set to take on a mammoth event this weekend in aid of Walking With The Wounded, by participating in the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra Marathon on Saturday 5 October.
The event is a huge test of stamina and endurance, as it sees participants cover a distance of 57 miles between the two cities. However, as if the distance itself wasn’t challenging enough Dale is taking things one step further, as he plans to complete the run in flip flops.
When asked about his motivations for the run and decision to do it in the unusual choice of footwear, Dale said:
“As a former Royal Marines Commando, Walking With The Wounded is a charity that supports a cause very close to my heart. I’ve run many ultra marathons, so I wanted to do so something a bit different this time around and push my limits. I completed the Manchester marathon this year wearing flip flops, so the ultra-marathon in flip flops is my natural progression. I did approach the Guiness World Records as this is a world first attempt, but they rejected the application due to the distance being too long and a lack of crazy people to compete against the record!”
Steph Bell, Fundraising Assistant WWTW, added:
“Taking on a regular marathon is hard enough, never mind an ultra-marathon, so to be completing it in flip flops is a serious challenge! I truly admire Dale’s dedication to helping support his fellow veterans and wish him the best of luck for the event.”
