HSJ Awards win for The Poppy Factory and NHS partners

It was a triumph for The Poppy Factory and its partners at the 2024 HSJ Awards, the annual initiative which shares success stories across the health and social care sector. Amid fierce competition, the charity, with its NHS partners, was named as the winner in the Military and Civilian and Health Partnership Award.

Chief Executive Amanda Shepard said:

“I’m absolutely thrilled that we and our NHS partners have won this award. This is well deserved recognition for five years of outstanding hard work and collaboration at all levels that has resulted in a third of the veterans we reach coming via the NHS on the Wirral, in Portsmouth and nationwide.  Huge congratulations and thanks to the entire team for this success.”

For over 44 years, the HSJ Awards has shone a light on the outstanding efforts and achievements of healthcare workers across the entire sector – driving quality improvements, despite some of the current, challenging circumstances faced by many.

This year, an impressive 1351 entries were received across 26 categories, with 235 organisations, projects and individuals making it to the final shortlist, following two rounds of rigorous judging.

The judging panel was made up of a diverse range of more than 200 influential and respected figures within the healthcare community. All finalists and winners were judged set against five clear criteria; ambition; outcome; spread; value and involvement (including how well stakeholders buy-in and contribute towards the project initiatives and outcomes).

Editor of the Health Service Journal, Alastair McLellan said:

“Year on year, I’m always so impressed by the innovation, dedication and integrity of all those who take the time to submit an entry to the HSJ Awards – and this year has been no exception, with an outstanding calibre of applicants, presenting some tough decisions and much deliberation for her our judging panel.

“I’d therefore like to extend my personal congratulations to The Poppy Factory and its NHS partners, who were named as the very worthy winner in the category of Military and Civilian Health Partnership.”
