Katie attempts marathon challenge

DIO Portfolio Support Manager, Katie Pell, is tackling her first ever full-length marathon at the end of April, in aid of the Veterans’ Foundation.

Katie is well on her way to hitting her £3,000 fundraising target, when she runs the London Marathon on Sunday, 27 April.

Katie has worked for DIO for 10 years and is passionate about the work the DIO does to enable defence people to live, work, train and deploy.

“I’ve never run a full marathon, and the prospect is pretty daunting, but I was keen to support the Veterans’ Foundation in its work for the armed forces and their families, so I didn’t hesitate when the opportunity to participate came up,” said Katie.

Katie has already raised funds for the VF through a DIO team cake sale and she has now stepped into this marathon place as a chance to raise even more.

She has been training hard alongside her cousin, David, who will be joining her on the starting line.

‘It’s great to be running together,” said Katie. “And it’s a very happy coincidence that our starting times are exactly the same, considering we didn’t enrol together.”

Katie and David will be taking off just after 10am on the day and have set themselves the goal of completing the 26-mile course around London in under four hours.

“I’m really looking forward to it and feel very lucky to have got the one VF place available,” she said.
