Kinross to hold Inside Out, an exhibition of art by veterans in prison

The Perth and Kinross branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is excited to announce a new project with veterans inside HMP Perth and HMP Castle Huntly. On Saturday 16 March and Sunday 17 March at historic St Paul’s Church in Kinross from 10:00am to 3:30pm, join SSAFA and the Scottish Prison Service for Inside Out, an exhibition of art by veterans in Perthshire prisons.

Entry to the exhibition is free, and there will be refreshments available to buy. All proceeds and donations will go to the Perth & Kinross branch of SSAFA to enable them to continue their vital work throughout Perthshire.

Anne Taylor of Arts at St Paul’s on what to expect from Inside Out:

“The exhibition will display artwork mostly painted in acrylics, on a wide range of subject matter and in a wide variety of individual styles. Some of the work is figurative and other pieces are purely abstract. I felt that much of it was a powerful expression of memories, dreams and emotions that have likely given an emotional release to the maker.”

Inside Out will display these works for the public to see as well as the prisoners’ families, who will get a chance to see their relatives’ thoughts and feelings put onto a physical medium. The artwork will also be available to buy with all proceeds will go to SSAFA Perth & Kinross.

SSAFA is available for all current and former members of the Armed Forces and their families, whether they need immediate help or long-term support. SSAFA’s Veterans in the Criminal Justice System (VCJS) Support Service is committed to offer a recognised and consistent service nationwide.
