Legasee Educational Trust, with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, is making a significant contribution to preserving the history of the Women’s Royal Army Corps (WRAC). Our latest initiative has involved a rewarding partnership with Wildern School, providing Year 10 students with a unique opportunity to learn about life in the military from WRAC veterans.
This collaboration has brought veterans and students together, fostering a deeper understanding of military history and the invaluable contributions of women in the British Army. The students engaged in a series of activities, culminating in an insightful interview with Lt Col (Ret) Sue Westlake MBE. These interactions have not only enriched the students’ historical knowledge but also highlighted the importance of recording and sharing personal experiences.
By linking veterans with schools, we aim to bridge the generational gap and ensure that the stories of those who served are preserved and appreciated by the younger generation. The students at Wildern School have gained a unique perspective on military life, enhancing their learning experience and fostering respect for the sacrifices made by those who served.
Legasee maintains a comprehensive video archive of nearly 700 veterans, and through this project, we are proud to add the voices of female veterans to our collection. This expansion is crucial in representing the diverse experiences of those who served in the British Army.
We invite all WRAC veterans who are interested in sharing their experiences of army life to join us as we continue to expand our research and educational outreach. Your stories are vital in keeping the legacy of the WRAC alive for future generations.
