Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund has donated £25,000 to support SSAFA’s Emergency Response Fund during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund has been a supporter of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity for over twenty years and has now continued their support with a donation to the charity’s Emergency Response Fund.
The Emergency Response Fund will help support SSAFA’s most vulnerable beneficiaries who need urgent help and cannot afford to wait during the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown. Many are older, who have health problems, who are on low incomes or self-employed and who are at the greatest risk of harm.
They include elderly, isolated veterans, or younger veterans no longer able to earn a living, families and children, those with serious medical conditions and those facing imminent homelessness.
The Emergency Response Fund will involve the provision of financial support for food, bills and other essentials directly to beneficiaries via new means, including expedited proof of service checks and the implementation of digital e-vouchers and transfers.
Jonathan Sandall, Director of Fundraising at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, said:
“This exceptionally generous donation from Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund to support our Emergency Response Fund is vital in supporting the Armed Forces community during this difficult time. Here at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, we are committed to supporting the person behind the uniform and their families, whenever they need us, and they need us now more than ever before.”
Jo Taylor, Responsible Business Manager at Lloyd’s, said:
“The third sector is hit hard by the impacts of COVID-19 and it is really important to Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund to support all our partners with additional unrestricted funding during these uncertain times. We believe that it our role as a funder to be supportive, flexible and generous through this unprecedented challenge and help where we can to meet the immediate needs of those who need the most help”
Founded in 1803, Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund is the oldest military charity of its kind. Since 2010, LPF has donated more than £3.2 million to support serving and ex-service personnel and their families. The Fund has been supporting SSAFA for over twenty years with a donation of £1.4 million of welfare grants.
