Reading Force is thrilled to welcome Lucy Fryer as a new team member in the role of Veterans Ambassador.
The shared reading charity prioritises inclusivity and welcomes veterans and their families to participate in supported shared reading activities, including book clubs. Reading and chatting about books, with friends, family or in groups, has been proven to boost empathy, well-being, and reduce isolation.
Lucy takes the baton from Judith Burke, and Founder of Reading Force, Professor Alison Baverstock, says:
“Our chair of trustees has a Naval background but the appointment of Lucy, a long-term Naval wife, completes our staff representation across all three services. She’s made a brilliant start, building on the firm foundations provided by Judith. All systems go!”
Lucy is attending events and working with a host of organisations and charities to ensure veterans can receive free Reading Force resources and information.
“I’m looking forward to bringing my lived experience as a naval spouse, and my knowledge of the military charity sector to the role of Veterans Ambassador. I’m passionate about supporting all those who have served in our Armed Forces, and their families. Reading Force is a fabulous initiative, and I am excited to highlight the benefits of shared reading to organisations and family members alike.” Lucy Fryer
Reading Force is a tri-service charity with worldwide reach. It works to encourage and facilitate shared-reading among serving and ex-serving families to boost communication and keep families connected, whether they are at home together or separated because of deployments, training, or divorce. The impact is broad and varied, with families reporting reduced stress, boosted communication, renewed love of reading together.
The Veterans Ambassador role is made possible by the generous support of the Veterans’ Foundation and the Lest We Forget Association.
