SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, recently honoured not one, but two of their volunteers with a prestigious award. The winners were announced at the recent Annual General Meeting and the prizes were presented by Sir Frances Richards, veteran and ex-Commander-in-Chief of Gibraltar, and former Director of GCHQ.
Divisional Secretary, Tracey McGrath, was awarded a prestigious Sir James Gildea Award – named after the founder of SSAFA. These awards were created to recognise volunteers and employees for their exceptional contribution and commitment to SSAFA’s activities and values.
Richard Farrimond, SSAFA Gloucestershire Branch Chair was honoured with a Long Service Award for 25 years of outstanding and dedicated service to the charity.
Richard said:
“Having been with SSAFA in Bristol and Hertfordshire, I re-joined in Gloucestershire and have found a wonderfully dedicated team of people with which to work.”
SSAFA looks after service personnel, veterans and their families in times of need. If you are interested in volunteering, you do not need to have a military background. Full training and support are given.
