The Role
The primary tasks of the Mission Motorsport Armed Forces Engagement Lead is to promote good Armed Forces Covenant behaviours and employer engagement, and to enable and support members of the Armed Forces community, including service leavers, veterans, military spouses/partners into sustainable employment.
The Engagement Lead will immerse himself/herself in Mission Automotive and Mission Renewable initiatives to develop relationships with ‘clients’ (members of MA/ MR) and partners across both sectors; to help to identify and exploit areas of need and mapping of job specifications against transferable skills; and to harness Mission Motorsport and other relevant organisations to generate and support Armed Forces engagement activity.
Job Purpose
• To develop and manage a portfolio of potential Mission Automotive and Mission Renewable clients.
• To help to deliver Mission Automotive and Mission Renewable services to clients.
• To act as a Subject Matter Expert lead to clients and partners on all Armed Forces Engagement matters.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
• Maintain good relationships with clients and partners to maximise the value of those relationships to Mission Motorsport and its beneficiaries.
• Identify key contacts potential partnership organisations to foster employer relationships.
• Engage directly with clients and partners to share best practices and services with regards employer engagement with the Armed Forces community.
• Understand the issues, challenges and obstacles facing clients and other employers in relation to armed forces engagement and identify potential solutions that also meet the business needs.
• Work with employers to identify and determine future skill requirements.
• Act as a sector voice on behalf of employers, helping shape UK military resettlement provision and employer engagement through the MoD, Officer for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA), Defence Relationship Management (DRM) and Regional Forces & Cadets Associations (RFCAs).
• Ensure accurate and timely recording of employer armed forces engagement activity and beneficiary activity.
• Resolve any complaints relating to armed forces engagement in a prompt and professional manner.
Essential Knowledge & Experience
• Proven experience in building relationships, and marketing people and ideas within a business context as an advocate of the armed forces community.
• A good understanding and knowledge of the UK Armed Forces, the transferable skills and employability of veterans and serving military personnel.
• Some experience of initiating and managing high level external relationships up to C- suite levels or equivalent.
• An empathy with and a good understanding of Armed Forces personnel, veterans and spouses, and their employability.
Desirable Knowledge & Experience
• Experience of working with employers in the placement of candidates facing barriers to employment.
• An understanding of the Defence employer engagement landscape and key players within the UK (eg DRM, RFCAs, Career Transition Partnership (CTP), Forces Employment Charity and COBSEO).
• An understanding and awareness of the challenges facing wounded, injured & sick (WIS) personnel in transition out of the military and into employment.
• Knowledge and understanding of the automotive and/ or renewable energy sectors.
• Previous service in the Armed Forces.
• An understanding and awareness of prospective and developing sector initiatives that may benefit from employer engagement with the Armed Forces community.
