Newcastle local to Complete 300km Cycling Challenge to Support UK Veterans and Their Families

Jen Jones, a Veteran Liaison Support Officer (VLSO) at leading Armed Forces charity, Walking With The Wounded, is set to take on an epic 300km cycling challenge in Holland between 8 to 13 September. Jen is fundraising for Walking With The Wounded to support veterans and their families.

Setting off from her hometown of Newcastle, Jen will cycle to Arnhem, the location of the battle for the Pegasus Bridge Operation Covent Garden, and commence a battlefield cycle tour around Holland, laying wreaths along the way in remembrance of those who served.

The journey is entirely self-funded, and Jen has set herself a fundraising target of £1,000. All monies raised will go directly to Walking With The Wounded, allowing the charity to provide vital support to veterans throughout the UK through their three main support pillars: Mental Health Support, Employment Support, and Care Co-Ordination.

Commenting on her fundraising challenge, Jen said,

“I really enjoy cycling, but have never taken on a cycling fundraising challenge before. As a VLSO at Walking With The Wounded, my role is to support the most vulnerable ex-service people who are struggling to adjust to civilian life, so I have first hand experience of how important the services offered by the charity are and want to do my bit to fundraise to enable the charity to continue its vital work.”

Victoria Doran, Head of Relationships at WWTW, added:

“This is an incredible challenge that Jen is taking on, and we truly admire her efforts in supporting Walking With The Wounded and the work we do. As one of our colleagues, Jen has a solid understanding of the need for our services throughout the UK and we commend her fundraising, which will allow us to support even more veterans and their families.”
