Doncaster paralegal to take on mammoth 100 km challenge for military charity

A woman from Doncaster is training to take on a 100 kilometre walk across the Yorkshire Dales for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Tracy Ford, 38, will be embarking on the challenge for the second time, having previously taken part last year in what was the challenge’s inaugural year.

A man from Dover is training to complete the 100 kilometre walk from London to Brighton for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Berni Jenkins, 45 and born in Portsmouth, is aiming to complete the daunting course in under 30 hours, and is hoping to raise £1,000 for the charity.

Charity roadshow promoting support for older veterans brings live music event to Great Yarmouth

A charity roadshow hosted by national military charity Blind Veterans UK and supported by Music in Hospitals is bringing a live music event to National Service and Armed Forces veterans in Great Yarmouth.

The event takes place on Thursday 2 February from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at The Priory Centre, Priory Plain, Great Yarmouth, NR30 1NW.

Military charity unveils new anti-gravity treadmill purchased after blind veteran raised £15,000 with 100km walk

A new anti-gravity treadmill has been unveiled by military charity Blind Veterans UK after a blind veteran raised £15,000 towards its purchase.

Rifleman Paul Jacobs GM, 27, from Brighton who completely lost his sight whilst on operations in Afghanistan, raised the money by tackling Blind Veterans UK’s inaugural 100km challenge over the Yorkshire Dales in June last year.

Blind Veterans UK supports GP training days to improve understanding of veterans’ health

National military charity Blind Veterans UK is involved in an innovative joint project supporting Health Education England in delivering a series of half day and full day training sessions on veterans’ healthcare for GPs across England.

Blind Veterans UK, which provides free services and support for all veterans, no matter when they served and how they lost their sight, was approached to take part in the programme which launched in 2015 and delivered its first training event of 2017 this week in Lancaster

A man from Mid-Sussex is training to take on a 100 kilometre walk from London to Brighton for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Russell Deamer, 46 and from Burgess Hill, will be taking on the challenge for the third time with Colin Penaluna, a blind veteran from Suffolk, whom he first guided in 2014. Despite falling just short that year, they returned with a vengeance to finish the course in 24 hours in 2016.

‘Blind Veterans UK has been wonderful’: Sunderland blind veteran reflects on support over the past year

Sunderland blind veteran, Dennis Taylor, praises the support he has received from Blind Veterans UK, one year on from when he first became a beneficiary in January 2016.

Dennis, 91, lives in Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, but was born in Croydon. He joined the Royal Navy in 1942 and after training at HMS Collingwood he served in Motor Torpedo Boats in the Indian Ocean, patrolling the coast from Mombasa to Dar es Salaam.

Preston blind artist displaying incredible paintings in St George’s Hall art exhibition

A blind artist from Lancashire who who says he owes his life to Blind Veterans UK has attended the opening of a special art exhibition that features his work which will be auctioned off to raise money for the charity.

Matt Rhodes, 42 and from Preston, is exhibiting his work along with other blind veterans at the ‘Art – Life Beyond Sight Loss’ exhibition which opened its doors to the public on Saturday (14/01).
