Give Us Time Conference “The positive impact of respite breaks on military families”

Yesterday Give Us Time held a conference examining the positive impact of respite breaks on military families, focusing on our group trip to Malta last year which was in association with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC). We would like to thank our speakers for making the event such a success and all of those who attended and participated in our discussion.

Professor Scott McCabe from the University of Nottingham spoke on the “Importance of Tourism and Holidays on the Wellbeing of the Individual” and highlighted the hardships that military families can experience, the way that holidays can be thought of as lavish and a luxury but actually how they should be seen as an essential right because of their importance and how needed they are for a family’s wellbeing.

Give Us Time’s Group Trip To The Balkan Jewel

Today is an exciting day for us at Give Us Time as our families have just arrived in Bulgaria for our annual trip to the amazing Balkan Jewel Resort.

This donation of time is allowing us to send over 100 individuals on a holiday of a lifetime which will enable them to take time out from the stresses of military life and reconnect as family units. This will be the first year that amongst other regiments the 4 Armoured Medical Regiment will be joining our respite break in Bulgaria. The need of time away to rest and reconnect can be especially high for serving medical personnel, considering they were specifically mentioned in the Defence People Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy as being at an increased risk of suffering from PTSD symptoms and more challenging transitions.
